Scrabble is one of my best board games for families. For families with older children the game can be taken more seriously, only allowing proper words to be used. For families with younger children, like ours, we are more relaxed, allowing our kids to use of names and other words not found in the dictionary. It’s funny watching them spell certain words and they learn a lot while playing. A good game of Scrabble can last for hours and can be the main event in a great family evening.
Monopoly is my top pick of all the best board games for families. Everybody can play and although the concept of the game is very simple, your kids learn a lot about life and business without really knowing it. We’ve played a version of Monopoly with credit cards and scanners to keep track of your money & payments but I prefer the old fashioned way of playing with actual paper dollars. I think kids learn a lot by counting their money, paying their bills & collecting their $200 every time they pass GO. For us, Monopoly is one of the best board games for families.
