Top 10 Easy Kid Games to Play Outside
5. Kick the Can
Kick the can is one of those games that most people know about but rarely seems to get played. I remember long games of kick the can while growing up with lots of kids. This is one of the very easy kid games to play outside because all you need is an empty can to get started.
4. Duck, Duck, Goose
Duck, duck, goose is a great kid game that is fun for even older kids. My kids like to vary the calls with other animals such as butterfly, butterfly, butterfly, bird but any names will do. This game is perfect because you can play with any number of children & nothing is needed so you can play this easy kid game outside or inside.
3. Ball Toss
Now ball toss is not an official game but no matter where we are, we can always seem to get a game started. For example, at the pool, we toss an inflatable ball into an inner tube. Kids take turn throwing and you can have them toss from an appropriate starting point to keep it somewhat difficult to hit the target. This game reminds me of a carnival game but no prizes are necessary. Any number of kids can play. Just grab any object or ball & let kids take turns tossing it into any other object or at a target. They love the challenge and competition.
2. Bocce or Lawn Bowling
Bocce is one of my favorite outdoor games. It’s one of those fun & easy kid games to play outside because all you need are a set of bocce balls or other equally sized balls that you are able to toss or roll. We play along with our kids and it can be fun or competitive depending upon the mood you’re in. We play bocce at the beach or backyard as any relatively flat surface will do. We’ve also played bocce indoors by rolling the balls on a rug. The kids love it.
Playing tag is our all-time favorite easy kid game to play outside. It seems as if every kid learns to play tag as soon as they are able to crawl or walk. Nobody ever wants to be “It” so they quickly learn to run fast or cut left or right to avoid being tagged. You can play with or without a base but somehow kids always seem to find a base and use it to avoid being “It”. You can introduce no-tag-back rules or other variations but I prefer the simple version of a good game of tag without bases. Since you don’t need any other items and you can play with any number of kids, tag is the top pick of all the easy kid games to play outside.
